How is a laptop different from a desktop?

Because laptops are designed for important differences between portability, as well as their and desktop computers. A laptop has an all-in-one design, with a built-in monitor, keyboard, touchpad (instead of the mouse), and speakers. This means that it is fully functional, even when not connected to its peripherals. Build a laptop faster and have fewer ways to get cable. Some newer laptops even have a touch screen, so you may not even need to use a keyboard or mouse.

There is a connection to a conventional mouse, select a larger display, and other peripherals. This is basically your laptop into a desktop computer, there is one major difference: You can easily disconnect peripherals, and took a laptop, wherever you go.

Here, you can use a laptop expect major differences.

Laptop touchpad

AC adapter into the notebook

Touchpad: The touchpad, also known as the touchpad is a touch-sensitive pad that lets you use your finger to control cursor movement by drawing. Many touchpad now includes multi-touch gestures, which allows you to perform specific tasks with multiple finger gestures. E.g., a pinch gesture is often used to zoom in or out.

Battery: Every laptop has a battery that lets you use the laptop when it is not plugged in whenever you plug in a laptop, the battery charging. Another benefit of having a battery is that it can provide backup power to the laptop, if the power is off.

AC adapter: a laptop computer is often called a dedicated AC adapter power cord, which aims to use a specific type of laptop. Some MagSafe magnetic connector cable used to secure the withdrawal, if someone tripping over the power cord. This helps prevent damage to cables and laptops.

Port: Most portable computers are desktop computers have the same type of ports (such as USB), although they usually have fewer ports, to save space. However, some ports may be different, and they may need to use an adapter. For example, the monitor port is usually a Mini DisplayPort, which is normal for a smaller version of DisplayPort.

Computer - How to Buy?

Monitor

Size - This is the diagonal size of the LCD screen. The larger the area, the greater the image screen. A larger screen is the best movies and games. This will increase productivity.
Resolution - This is the number of pixels on the screen. For example, a 24-inch display is 1920 × 1200 (length x width) and 22-inch display, is 1680 × 1050. High resolution provides better picture quality and a good game experience.

Operating system

Everything is a computer operating system in some form or other major software running on it.
There are three main options: Windows, Linux, Apple OS X.
Linux is free, but people generally do not use it for domestic purposes.
Apple OS X only on Apple's desktop.
Windows 7 desktop users are very popular.
The recent launch of Windows 8, and in the market.
Windows 8 Windows 7 and all the starters, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, and multiple versions of the Enterprise Edition.

Memory

RAM is considered a computer memory as the computer's performance is directly proportional to its memory and processor.
Today's software and operating systems that require high memory.
Currently used in RAM DDR 3 1066 MHZ work
Press Windows 7 in, 1 GB RAM is the minimum normally required.
Recommended - 4 GB.

Hard Drive

Hard disk is used for storage purposes. Higher capacity, more data can be stored inside.
Now, one day the computer is equipped with a 500 GB hard drive, expandable to 2 TB.
In most desktop hard drive running at 7200 RPM speed standard performance.
Recommended - 500 GB.

CPU

Frequency (GHz) - which determines the speed of the processor. More speed, better CPU.
Core - Now-a-days are equipped with more than one CPU core, it's like there is on the computer has multiple CPU. Programs can take advantage of multi-core environment to run faster on this machine.
Brand - Intel or AMD. Both are equivalent. Intel in the lead.
Cache - higher L 1, L 2 cache, better CPU performance
Recommended - Intel Core i 3 i 3-32253.30 GHz processor.

Relationship between Hardware and Software

Hardware and software are dependent on each other. They must work together to make a computer to produce useful output.

Software is inseparable from the use of hardware support.

Hardware does not have a program operation can not be used, is of no use.

To obtain complete specific tasks on your computer, related software should be loaded into the hardware

The hardware is a one-time fee.

Software development is very expensive and is an ongoing expense.

Different software applications can be loaded in a different job to run on the hardware.

Software acts as an interface between the user and the hardware.

If the hardware is the computer system of the "heart", then the software is its "soul." Both are complementary to each other.

Computer - Internet and Intranet

Computer Network

What is a computer network?

Where in the computer network is a plurality of computers are connected to each other, in order to share information and resources of the system.

Characteristics of computer networks

Shared resources from one computer to another

Files created, and store them on a computer, to access these files from another computer over a network connection (s) Printer, scanner or fax machine connected to a computer network, allowing the network to other computers through a network of machines.

The following is the hardware needed to set up a computer network list.

Network Cable
Distributors
Router
Built-in network card

Network Cables

Network cables are used to connect computers. The most commonly used cable is Category 5 cable rj-45.

Distributors

A computer can be connected via the serial port to another one, but if we need to connect multiple computers to generate a network, the serial connection will not work. The solution is to use a central agency, which other computers, printers, scanners, etc. can be connected, then the agency will manage or distribute network traffic.

Router
A router is a device acts as the type of computers and other devices are part of a network, wherein the center point. Router is equipped with a hole called port and the computer, and connect to other devices using a network cable router. Now give the day a router to use this computer may not have any physical cable connection in wireless mode.

Computer - Read Only Memory

On behalf of read-only memory ROM. From which we can only read, but can not write memory on it. This type of memory is non-volatile. In the manufacturing process information is permanently stored in memory such as. A ROM, such instructions needed to start the computer store. This operation is called bootstrapping. ROM chip is not only used in the computer, but also in other electronic items such as washing machines and microwave ovens.

The following are the various types of the ROM

MROM (masked ROM)
First ROM is hardwired contains program set of data or instructions means. These types of masked ROM is referred to as the ROM they are inexpensive.

PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory)
PROM is read-only memory can only be modified once the user. Users buy a blank and enter with the required PROM PROM programming content. PROM chip inside which opened a small fuse was burned when programming. It can be programmed only once, rather than erased

EPROM (Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory)
The EPROM can be obtained by exposing it to ultraviolet light for up to 40 minutes duration is erased. Typically, an EPROM eraser implement this feature. During programming, charges are trapped in the insulated gate region. The charge holding more than ten years, because there is no charge leakage paths. Erase the charge, UV through a quartz window (cover). The exposure to ultraviolet light to dissipate the charge. In normal use quartz lid sealed with stickers.

EEPROM (Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory)
The EEPROM programming and erasing electricity. It can be erased and reprogrammed about 10,000 times. Both the erase and programming, about 4 to 10ms (milliseconds). In the EEPROM, any position can be selectively erased and programmed. A byte erasable EEPROM time, rather than erase the entire chip. Thus, the process of reprogramming is flexible, but slower.

Computer - Random Access Memory

RAM (Random Access Memory) is used to store the result data, and program of the internal memory of the CPU. This is a read / write memory for storing data, until the machine is working. Once the machine is turned off, the data is erased.

In the RAM access time is independent of the number of other positions within the same memory address of each storage location is easy and the time required to reach. Data in RAM random access, but it is very expensive.

Is stored in the RAM when it loses volatile, i.e. the data, we turn off the computer, or if there is a power failure. Therefore, a backup power system (UPS), is often used and the computer. RAM is small, the amount of both in terms of its physical size and the data can be accommodated.

Are two types of RAM
Static RAM
Dynamic RAM

Static RAM (SRAM)

Digital still represent the contents of memory, as long as the power supply. However, the data when the power is down due to the volatile nature of the loss. Using 6-transistor static RAM chip and no capacitor matrix. Transistor does not require power to prevent leakage, so static RAM does not need to have to be refreshed periodically.

Because in the matrix of additional space, the same amount of storage space used by static RAM more than DRAM chip, so that the manufacturing cost is higher. Therefore,  static RAM  is used as a cache memory, and has a very fast access.

Dynamic RAM (DRAM)

In DRAM, unlike static RAM  must be constantly refreshed to keep the data. This is achieved by rewriting the data on a memory refresh circuitry done hundreds of times per second. DRAM memory is used in most systems, because it is inexpensive and small. All DRAM memory cell is a capacitor composed of them and a transistor.

Computer - Memory

Memory is like a human brain. It is used for storing data and instructions. Computer memory is a memory space of the computer, where the data is to be processed and the desired storage location of the process instruction. The memory is divided into a large number of small parts called cells. Each location has a unique address or cell varies from zero to the memory size minus 1. For example, if your computer has 64K words, then the storage unit has 64 * 1024 = 65536 memory location. Address these places, from 0 to 65535.

Three main types of memory is

Cache
Main memory / main memory
Auxiliary storage

Cache
Cache memory is a semiconductor memory of a very high speed, which can speed up the CPU. It is as a buffer between the CPU and main memory. It is used to store data and programs, which are those parts of the CPU of the most frequently used. Each part of the data and procedures from the disk is transferred to the cache memory by the operating system, CPU can access them from there.

Main memory (main memory)

The main memory to store data and instructions only working properly which computer. It has a capacity limit, and when the power is turned OFF data loss. It generally consists of a semiconductor device. These memories are not as fast as registers. Data and instructions to be processed resides in main memory. It is divided into two sub-RAM and a ROM.

Auxiliary storage

This type of memory is also called external memory or non-volatile. It is slower than main memory. These are used to permanently store data / information. CPU does not access directly the opposite of these memories, they are accessed through the input and output process. Two memory contents is first transferred to the main memory, the CPU can then access it. For example: disk, CD-ROM, DVD and so on.

Monitor

Monitor, commonly known as visual display unit (VDU), is the main output device of the computer. It forms an image from a fine dot, i.e., called pixels arranged in a rectangular shape. The sharpness of the image depends on the number of pixels.

There are two viewing screen for a display.
A cathode ray tube (CRT)
Flat panel displays

A cathode ray tube (CRT) display

The CRT monitor is a small picture elements called pixels. The smaller the pixels, image clarity, or the better the resolution. It takes more than one pixel lighting, the overall quality of the formation, such as helping the letter "E" word.
A limited number of characters can be displayed at one time on the screen. Screen can be divided into a series of character blocks - a fixed position on the screen, a standard character can be placed. Most of the screen is capable of displaying the data level 80 characters and 25 vertical lines. There are some disadvantages of the cathode ray tube:
Large
High-power
CRT monitors

Flat Panel Display Monitor

The flat-panel display refers to a class of video device, in comparison to CRT reduce the size, weight and power requirements. You can hang on the wall, or to wear on your wrist. Current flat panel display applications include calculators, game machines, monitors, notebook computers, graphic display.

Printer

Output means of the printer, which is used to print the information on paper.

There are two types of printers:
Dot matrix printer
Non-dot matrix printer

Computer - Input Devices

Following are few of the important input devices which are used in a computer:
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse

The keyboard is the most common and popular input device, it can help in entering data into the computer. The keyboard layout is such a traditional typewriter, although providing additional functionality to perform some additional keys are used.
84-key keyboard in two sizes or 101/102 key, but now 02-11-22104 keys or 108 keys are also available for Windows and the Internet.

Mouse

The mouse is the most popular pointing device. It is has a round ball at its base, it detects the movement of the mouse, and sends a corresponding signal, CPU when the mouse button is pressed a small palm-sized box of a very famous cursor control device.
Usually it has two buttons called the left and right buttons, a wheel between this button. Mouse can be used to control the position of the cursor on the screen, but it can not be used to enter text into the computer.

Advantages

Easy to use
Not very expensive
Move the cursor over the arrow keys on the keyboard to be fast.

Joystick

The joystick is also used to move the cursor position on the monitor screen to indicate the device. It is a rod having a spherical ball at its two lower and upper ends. The lower spherical ball in the socket move. You can move the joystick in all four directions.
Joystick function is similar to a mouse. It is mainly used for computer-aided design (CAD) and playing computer games.
